Leni Riefenstahl is considered one of the most controversial women of the 20th century.  An actress turned filmmaker, Leni’s films, Triumph of the Will and Olympia are considered artful, technical masterpieces by contemporary society.  Yet, her films celebrate perfect body form and other elements that seem to mirror her association with Hitler and the ideals of the Nazi Party.   Coincidence… a case of artful expression that happens to fit Nazi ideals, or is this more a case of shared ideological concepts.  How did Leni become the Reich’s preeminent filmmaker if she was just a hired hand?  Riefenstahl examines this question using never-before-seen documents from Leni Riefenstahl’s estate, including private films, photos, recordings and letters, uncovering fragments of her biography and placing them in an extended historical context.

Starring:  Ulrich Noethen; Leni Riefenstahl; Albrecht Knaus; Raimund le Viseur; Ernest A. Ostro; Heinrich Breloer; Joseph Goebbels; Rudolf Hess; Adolf Hitler; Horst Kettner; Elfriede Kretschmer; Ray Müller; Hansjürgen Rosenbauer; Albert Speer; Willy Zielke

“This compelling expose provides a well-researched launchpad for a fresh discussion among historians and cinephiles.”  (Todd Jorgenson, Cinemalogue)

“In practice, it’s an absorbing and exhilarating example of how thorough research pays enormous dividends.  Such rigorous work risks feeling laborious, but Riefenstahl is a marvel.”  (Barry Levitt, The Daily Beast)

“It’s refreshing that writer-director Andres Veiel allows us to make up our own minds… .”  (Rich Cline, Shadows on the Wall)
