The Shape of Water is set against the backdrop of Cold War era America, circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.

Insider’s tip: The Shape of Water is a wonder to behold. Magical, thrilling and romantic to the core, a sensual and fantastical fairy tale with moral overtones, it’s a film that plays by all the rules and none of them, going its own way with fierce abandon” (Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times). Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal, adds: “Ms. Hawkins reminds us how intense silent films could be. She gives the best performance of the year with the most heart-piercing silence you’ve ever seen.” Peter Travers, Rolling Stone: “The result is an acting duet that will haunt your dreams and break your heart.”

Winning 2 Golden Globes and with 13 Oscar nominations, THE SHAPE OF WATER has another 82 wins and 244 nominations for excellence.
