Annie (Rose Byrne) is stuck in a long-term relationship with Duncan (Chris O’Dowd) – an obsessive fan of obscure rocker Tucker Crowe (Ethan Hawke). When the acoustic demo of Tucker’s hit record from 25 years ago surfaces, its release leads to a life-changing encounter with the elusive rocker himself. Based on the novel by Nick Hornby, Juliet, Naked is a comic account of life’s second chances.
Insider’s tip: “A charming film of an engaging, adult nature about two very different people trying to press reset in their lives, it is comic, heartfelt and smart as they come — a rare combination these days” (Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times). Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, adds: “Juliet, Naked is very like a Hornby novel in that it’s irresistible and appealing and full of tenderness and idiosyncrasy, and yet when you try to tell people what was so great about it, you can’t do it justice.” Ty Burr, Boston Globe: “The cast — Rose Byrne, Ethan Hawke, comic sad sack Chris O’Dowd — is in a higher weight class than the material and, rather than be dragged down into formula, they raise the movie up to the nearly scintillating.” Owen Gleiberman, Variety: “It’s a winsome screwball love story that grows on you and takes you somewhere charming.”
