Summer Arts Festival July 6 - September 1

Saturday, July 6 – PEGGY HAYES & THE BOB MERRILL TRIO – Swing Into Summer – Peggy Hayes, jazz vocalist, Bob Merrill, piano and vocals, Glendon Ingalls, string bass, and Terry Langford, sax and clarinet, bring you memories of the 30’s and 40’s. 8 p.m.

Tuesday, July 9 – VERMONT BRASS QUINTETFive members of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra perform a diverse repertoire including standard 20th Century compositions, jazz medleys, Sousa marches and traditional brass music. 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, July 13 – MHCA SUMMER GALA A very special evening to benefit MHCA. Dance to Dixieland and swing music of the New Century Jazz Ensemble at the Hermitage Inn. Buffet dinner and dessert. Cash bar. 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. The Hermitage Inn, Coldbrook Road, Wilmington, VT.

Tuesday, July 16 – VERMONT JAZZ ENSEMBLE – The Big Band Era Returns, Again! - This 17-piece big band plays songs made popular by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Maynard Ferguson and more. 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, July 20 – MHCA GARDEN TOUR – An Artist in the Garden – Local artists at work in the Valley’s most beautiful gardens. 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Special benefit for MHCA.

Saturday, July 20 – VILLAGE LIGHT OPERA GROUPSixty accomplished NYC vocalists present Broadway standards, light opera favorites, and well-known songs from Gilbert and Sullivan. A tradition in the Deerfield Valley, this special concert benefits MHCA. 8 p.m.

Tuesday, July 23 – CROSSOVER: CLASSICAL TO JAZZ – Margery McCrum, soprano, Bill Shontz, clarinet, Phyllis Isaacson, piano, and Don Baldini, string bass, showcase popular classical and jazz selections, including a tribute to the renowned "crossover" musician, Benny Goodman, as well as the works of George Gershwin, and more. 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday, & Monday, July 25, 26, 27 & 29 – ANYTHING GOES A raucous romp on the ocean liner SS America. The Deerfield Valley Players present this 1962 revised version of Cole Porter’s zany 1933 musical. 8 p.m.

Tuesday, July 30 – MUSIC FOR VIOLIN AND PIANO Kathy Andrew, violin, and Chonghyo Shin, piano, perform works of Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Franck. 7:30 p.m.

Friday & Saturday, August 2 & 3 ANYTHING GOES A raucous romp on the ocean liner SS America. The Deerfield Valley Players present this 1962 revised version of Cole Porter’s zany 1933 musical. 8 p.m.

Tuesday, August 6 – THE MUSIC OF RICHARD RODGERS – Maggi Scott, jazz piano & vocals, Dave Clark, string bass, and Ken Clark, drums, celebrate the Rodgers’ centenary. 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, August 7 – YANKEE MEN’S CHORUS Fifty talented men with an extensive performance repertoire, including sacred, patriotic, and show tunes. 8 p.m. (GA)

Saturday, August 10 – LUTHER JOHNSON BLUES BANDGrammy Award winner, Luther Johnson, former guitarist and vocalist with Muddy Waters, together with his five-piece band, presents a rhythmic blend of blues and soul that will bring the house down. 8 p.m.

Tuesday, August 13 – CELEBRATE THE PIANO Robert Merfield and Horia Mihail perform both solo and "one piano, four-hands" selections on the concert grand. 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, August 17 – A NEW YORK CABARET Experience the New York club scene with Lisa Asher, award-winning vocalist, and composer/arranger Jeff Waxman, pianist. "An untapped talent…" - Rosie O’Donnell. 8 p.m.

Tuesday, August 20 – BANJO DAN AND THE MID-NITE PLOWBOYS With fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, string bass, and vocals, this quintet is "New England bluegrass at its best." 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, August 24 – AUGUST DULCIMER DAZE An MHCA favorite, featuring this traditional folk instrument with The Margaret MacArthur Family, Lorraine and Bennett Hammond, Thomasina, and other accomplished performers. 8:00 p.m. (GA) For information about workshops call Folk Craft Music, 802-368-7437.

Friday, August 30 – Fourth Annual SILENT FILM FESTIVAL Comedy shorts. 8 p.m. (GA)

Saturday, August 31 – ODETTA A legendary blues/folksinger, one of the most influential music pioneers of the 20th Century, accompanied by pianist, Seth Farber. 8 p.m.

Sunday, September 1 – Fourth Annual SILENT FILM FESTIVAL Comedy shorts. 8 p.m. (GA)

September 21 - October 20 – FINE ARTS EXHIBITION For the Love of Art – A visual arts presentation featuring works from the Valley’s art galleries.

Saturday, September 21 – SOUTHERN VERMONT FALL ARTS FESTIVAL OPENINGComplimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar at Alonzo’s Restaurant beginning at 5:30 p.m., exhibition ribbon cutting at 7 p.m., musical presentation by Robin Matathias, flute, Barbara Lipstadt, piano, at 8 p.m., and auction to benefit MHCA at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, September 28 – LUIS BATLLE, piano, and JUDITH SERKIN, cello Internationally acclaimed classical artists. 8 p.m.

Saturday, October 5 – SCOTT SANCHEZ Classical guitarist with the expressive vibrato, elegant ornamentation, and broad, warm tones of the Spanish masters. 8 p.m.

Saturday, October 12 – SCOTT AINSLIEBlues singer, guitarist, and historian whose style is dis-tinguished by fiery picking and slide work. Author of the best-selling, Robert Johnson: At the Crossroads. 8 p.m.

Saturday, October 19 – THE STOCKWELL BROTHERS From bluegrass to "newgrass," this accomplished group performs their own blend of traditional bluegrass and folk/rock music. 8 p.m.
